Ready to Rock?

Our Rock and Pop School starts the 2015 season with a bang! You’ll develop your skills both as a musician and writing your own music. You will rehearse and play on your own and together with fellow students in one of the several bands set-up for the course. At the end of your two week stay there is an opportunity to record at the world famous Abbey Road Studios!

We will also dedicate three hours per day for English Language studies, helping our students improve their practical language skills and and learn about English tradition and culture whilst at the school. The Harrow School will also provide accommodation with full boarding as well as facilitate a number of sightseeing tours and excursions to see London, The British Museum and The Windsor Castle.

Who Is It For?

The LIMS Rock and Pop School is looking for talented 14-17 year old, Chinese speaking pre-university students.

 


 

Course Content

Our Rock and Pop School curriculum is tailored for pre-university students (aged 14-17 years), who have a good command of their own instrument and are looking to improve their skills as musicians, working together as a team. After initial assessment you will be put in smaller groups where you will form bands according to your chosen genre, learn to work, rehearse and play in a group and also write your own music under the tutelage of our expert coaches.

 

GENERAL DAILY SCHEDULES

Most days start with a three hour English tuition after breakfast, followed by four hours of music tuition before supper and music practice or other evening activities.

  • 08.00-09.00  Breakfast
  • 09.00-12.00   General English lessons
  • 12.00-13.00    Lunch
  • 13.00-17.30    Music tuition, lesson and workshops
  • 17.30-18.30    Supper
  • 18.30-21.00   Project work, music practice or themed entertainment
  • 21.00-22.30   Personal downtime

All meals are at The Harrow School on a full board all-inclusive basis unless otherwise stated in the detailed programme. The Harrow School have excellent on-site facilities for sports and student have the option of using these at their leisure for early morning swims or team sport activities.

Facilities

The Harrow School

The course and accommodation will be at the famous Harrow School, located within easy local commute to Central London.

The Harrow School is a highly respected independent school, established 1572. It has a reputation par none and rich heritage, with esteemed prior pupils, old “Harrovians”, including several heads of state and leading politicians (Winston Churchill), Nobel prize winning scientists to world famous artists, explorers and adventurists. It has currently overseas schools in Beijing, Hong Kong and Bangkok.

The school is located amongst some 160 ha of playing fields, tennis courts, golf course, woodland and gardens in the leafy suburb of Harrow-on-the-Hill. It has excellent academic, music teaching and sports facilities.The School’s playing fields are extensive and include two all-weather pitches that can be used for rugby practice, soccer and hockey. The Sports Centre has an eight metre indoor climbing wall, a weights room, a 25m swimming pool and a sports hall. There are courts for tennis, rackets, squash and Fives and the School has its own nine-hole golf course. The athletics facilities include an Olympic-standard running track, facilities for long jump, high jump, discus and all the main athletics events.

The Music Schools contain specialist teaching and practice rooms and a Concert Hall suitable for chamber music performances. A number of other buildings are regularly used for musical performances including Speech Room, Chapel, the Old Harrovian Room, the Ryan Theatre and the Vaughan Library. Harrow has two major pipe organs, several grand pianos, including a Bosendorfer Concert Grand in Speech Room and two Steinway As and a Harpsichord in the Concert Hall. There are also two recording studios and, for academic teaching, they have two classrooms in the International Studies Centre. These include a suite of 25 computers and midi keyboards with notation and sequencing software.

Costs

The Rock and Pop School operates on a full all-inclusive basis, covering all scheduled activities, teaching, all meals and accommodation. Travel packages from key cities in China will be available as options. Contact us for details.
